How to Hire A Roofing Company

The 6 most critical things to consider when hiring a roofing contractor are as follows:

  1. Insurance—Be sure your contractor has a current insurance certificate with $1 million of liability coverage. Call the agency listed on the certificate to ensure that it is still in place.
  2. Physical Office—A physical, commercial office indicates a company that has been successful in the marketplace over several years and is a good indicator that they will still be in business if and when it is time for warranty service on your project.
  3. Local References—A good roofing contractor should be able to supply you with dozens (or hundreds) of local references. Anyone can give you a couple of friends willing to say good things about them; a longer list makes it more likely that you will talk to an actual customer. Do your homework and call a few people on the list.
  4. A+ BBB Rating—The Better Business Bureau (BBB) gives you an indication of how many complaints the contractor receives and shows you how the company responds to those complaints. Every contractor gets complaints now and then, but how do they respond?
  5. 5 Star Reviews—What is the contractor’s on-line reputation? You are looking for a minimum of 20 reviews and a minimum average of 4 stars. If a company can’t achieve these minimums, you probably don’t want them on your roof.
  6. Major Manufacturer Certification—There are 3 major manufacturers of shingles, GAF, Owens Corning and Certainteed. They all offer certification programs which require proof of financial stability, training of crews, training of sales people, etc. A certified company tells you that the largest manufacturers in the country believe in the company you are about to hire.

If you hire according to this list, your odds of hiring a great contractor go through the roof! You can find more helpful information here on our blog. Check it out!
